So I'm no reviewer of movies, but hot damn, this was a great film. It stayed pretty true to the source material, which was no mean feat. The things left out didn't bother me much. Hell, the film was already past 3 hours before cuts were made. Had everything from the book been left in, the film would've been broken up into a trilogy. And reports on the eventual DVD already hint that the Black Freighter material and possible Under the Hood, will be included.
One thing that surprised me was Kelly Leak
erm I mean, Jackie Earle Haley without the mask. He looks nothing like Walter Kovacs. But hell, they pulled it off. Sort of. I think he looked more like a grown up Shermanator from American Pie
and my girlfriend was reminded of Danny Bonadouche (SP? ha ha just kidding Donnie!)
The film was gruesome at times. The fight scenes were tight, abrupt and totally gave me a voilence boner. And there were BOOBIES.
Which leads me to ask, WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU BRING YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS FILM? Even if you know nothing about this movie and what it had in store, did you not notice it was rated R? What kind of parents would bring their under 5 brood to a R rated movie? Besides the fact that my experience was ruined by the 3 year old behind me constantly fucking babbling “BATMAN!” every time Nite Owl II was shown, I was felt disgust every time an F bomb was dropped, a titty popped out or a guys fucking arm BONE was forced through his skin by a savage beating. Kids aren't like you and me. When they see a titty in all of its glory, they either get hungry or cry. (Ok so maybe they aren't so different from me) Jesus Fucking Christ people, you don't bring your toddlers to a R rated film, ok!? Damn.
